Surgical treatment of varicose veins (varixes)
Varicose veins are coiled sac-like extensions of the surface veins of the legs that can gradually become prominent and protrude. In milder cases, they may just be enlargements of tiny blood vessels, called spider veins, which look like blue or purple spider webs.
Varicose veins are not just an aesthetic problem; if left untreated they can cause more serious complications. Treatment should therefore start from the first signs varicose veins. At our specialised clinic, we treat them using the most modern methods that are performed using only painkillers or local anaesthesia.
Varicose veins can have the following symptoms:
pain in pain in the varicose veins, possibly in the entire leg(s);
heavy and tired legs;
feelings of pressure;
swelling;
cramps;
burning, itching and even eczema;
night cramps and "restless legs".
In later stages, skin changes develop, with thinning of the skin or hardening of the subcutaneous tissue, deposition of dye and browning of the skin. If not treated in time a tibial ulcer can develop. Other complications may include painful inflammation of the veins.
Difficulties are very often influenced by the time of day, season, physical activity, changes in ambient temperature and hormonal changes. Particularly tricky is the fact that the intensity of symptoms may not match the severity of the disease.
Most risk factors for varicose veins cannot be controlled. The incidence of varicose veins increases with age and they are more common in women than in men. Genetic predisposition is a particularly significant factor. Other influences that may contribute to the development of varicose veins are being female, repeated pregnancies, higher body weight, diet, lack of physical activity and excessive standing or sitting.
The most appropriate treatment for varicose veins is determined by the vascular surgeon based on the initial ultrasound and clinical examination in relation to the patient's difficulties.
SCLEROTIZATION
Minor outpatient procedures not requiring anaesthesia, incapacity or any major restrictions include SCLEROTIZATION. It involve treatment of spider and smaller veins, where a sclerosing solution is injected into the veins in several places using a thin needle, which subsequently leads to their closure. The solution can be a liquid or special foam, depending on the size of the vein and the extent of the affliction, and in some cases ultrasound guidance is used during its application.PHLEBECTOMY
PHLEBECTOMY is another procedure performed for larger veins and larger varicose veins, but without affecting the main veins. This involves the removal of vessels that branch off the main veins in sections measuring 6-10 cm via small punctures (3-5 mm in size) using special instruments. This procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia. These small incisions usually do not need to be sutured, and are merely sealed. This method gives very good cosmetic results.ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLATION (EVLA)
In the case of larger lesions, especially those affecting the main vessels, treatment takes place endovenously. A LASER FIBRE inserted into the vein via a tiny puncture under ultrasound control, which then causes the vein to close by applying a high temperature to the vein from the inside. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia or painkillers. In the case of local anaesthesia, an anaesthetic fluid is injected under ultrasound control into the area around the affected vein. This is the method now recommended worldwide for varicose vein management - even more so that the formerly commonly used classical surgical solution - because it results in very quick recovery, minimal bruising, the absence of major surgical incisions, and a significantly shorter period of wearing compression stockings.
The individual procedures mentioned above can be combined to achieve optimal results.

More information on the procedure
The advantage of these procedures is that they can be performed with the use of only painkillers or local anaesthesia.
Immediately after the procedure, compression stockings are put on in the operating room and after a short time it is possible to go home, accompanied by another person. The length of time compression stockings are worn depends on the type of procedure performed and the extent of the problem. Greater physical exertion is possible after sclerotization almost immediately, and after a phlebectomy or laser procedure after about a week, depending on the individual.
Small wounds and punctures usually heal within a week after the procedure. Smaller bruises are absorbed in about 4-6 weeks. It is advisable to apply an ointment that speeds up the absorption process, and to avoid direct exposure of the treated area to sunlight due to the possibility of pigment spots forming.
A slight reduction in sensitivity at the injection site disappears within a short period of time. A small scar may remain after an incision or injection during phlebectomy.
In the postoperative period, recovery measures are always individual and depend on the method used and extent of the procedure.
The price range for the Flebektomie procedure is from CZK 10.0000 to CZK 27.000, including anesthesia (or analgosedation) with post-procedure rest/hospitalization.
The price range for the Evla + Flebektomie procedure is from CZK 35.0000 to CZK 55.000, including anesthesia (or analgosedation) with post-procedure rest/hospitalization.
