Laparoscopic surgery
in gynaecology
This is a minimally invasive method that allows access to the abdominal cavity without opening it through a traditional surgical incision. It is performed under general anaesthesia and the procedure normally takes between 45 and 60 minutes (depending on difficulty). Carbon dioxide is injected into the abdominal cavity using a special needle. This is a harmless gas that inflates the abdominal cavity and makes it possible to view the abdominal cavity with a special camera - a laparoscope - that is inserted through the abdominal wall. During laparoscopic surgery, additional small incisions must be made to introduce additional instruments into the abdominal cavity to perform the actual surgery. After the procedure is completed, the gas is suctioned out of the abdominal cavity and the incisions are sutured.
The procedure is performed to assess the internal genitalia, small pelvis or abdominal cavity. Any pathological processes in the tissues are removed to the greatest extent possible. The most common procedures include ovarian surgery, removal of ovarian cysts, sterilization, removal of fallopian tubes, surgery due to ectopic pregnancy, detaching adhesions, uterine adnexa surgery.

More information on the procedure
General.
Immediately after the laparoscopy, the patient is placed in the recovery room, where she is monitored and followed. She is usually allowed to get out of bed in the evening after the procedure and is allowed to drink fluids, followed by a light meal the next morning. If there are no complications, the patient is discharged to home care on the first or second day after the procedure. Stitches are usually removed on the 7th to 10th day after the procedure.
The recovery period required for full healing is usually 3-5 weeks. During this time it is necessary to avoid exertion and sexual intercourse, and to undergo intensive rehabilitation.
The price range for the procedure is from CZK 45.000 to CZK 65.000, including anesthesia (or analgosedation) with post-procedure rest/hospitalization.
